We were contracted by Schuster Homes to complete the rest of the infrastructure for this 50 acre, 50 parcel development. We installed all underground utility lines including 6,350 feet water main, 6,000 feet of sewer main, 3,750 feet of storm drain, and 9,000 feet of joint utilities. Also included in the contract was a sewer treatment facility, widening Hicks lane, rough grading the site, and finish grading all sidewalk and roadway areas.

The Sierra Central Credit Union Project is located at the east end of the Feather River Rural Health Project in Paradise. We completed the all the earthwork, base rock, paving, and underground utilities for this project as a subcontractor to Integrated Builders Group.

Rolling Hills Casino hired us to construct a shooting range for the clear creek gun club. We moved 12,500 cubic yards of dirt to form berms for the rifle and pistol shooting ranges. We also installed storm drain lines in the area.

On the Richfield Elementary School campus we worked directly with the school district as a general contractor. As a part of our site work contract we were responsible for all earthwork, aggregate base, concrete, paving, and underground utility installation of the 20 acre campus. The underground utilities included storm drain, sewer, fire and domestic water supply, wells and infrastructure, and onsite sewer treatment facilities. Upon request of the school district we also did all irrigation systems and hydro seeding of grass areas.

The Hacienda Elementary School project was also located in California City and we were again a subcontractor of Seward Schreder Construction. This project did not begin until late January of 2007, but it was completed in only six months. R&R Horn was responsible for all the earthwork and underground utilities including sewer, water, gas, storm drain, and landscaping.

This was a fast track project for the Town of Paradise. It included Storm Drain Improvements, relocating a fire hydrant, and removal and replacement of sidewalk and asphalt concrete paving. By the hard work of our employees combined with managing four subcontractors we were able to complete the project over a week ahead of the 45 day schedule.

We had two separate contracts with Modern Building for this project. The first was for the site work which included digging out 10,000 cubic yards for the basement of hospital, clearing and all other earthwork, bringing in base rock, paving the parking lots, and widening Skyway on both sides of the road. The second contract was to install a five tank sewer treatment system as there are no city sewer services in the area.

R&R Horn was a subcontractor of Seward Schreder Construction on this project, which began in late November of 2006. It was completed by August of 2007. This project included grading 35 acres, over excavating building pads for 24 classrooms and 4 workrooms, concrete sidewalk, curb, and gutter, paving, sewer, storm drain, gas, water, and landscaping. Included in the water line installation was over a mile of additional offsite 12” water main.

The Anderson Landfill Project, completed in 2004, included moving over one million yards of dirt. R&R Horn built new roads and excavated new dumping areas for the landfill. In the picture is the construction of one of the many detention basins that were constructed. In the background is a D-8 Dozer is pushing an open bowl 621 scraper to load out dirt of the area, while up close a D-4 Dozer is trimming the slope of the detention basin.

Street Work Begins

Portola’s city manager announced at the last city council meeting that work begins on Nevada and Commercial streets the week of Sept. 22.

The council approved the bid at a prior meeting and the street project was awarded to R&RHorn.
City Engineer Dan Bastian notified the city that the contractor expected to begin with the demolition and construction of ADA ramps and hoped to complete the concrete work by Oct. 1.

“The tentative schedule is to do the Commercial Street grinding on Nevada Street on Oct. 3,” Murphy reported. “After they do the grinding on Commercial and Nevada, they’re going to let it sit for two weeks, because they’re worried that the equipment and the grinding process will cause some water leaks. They don’t want to pave and then have the water leaks.come up through the new Pavement.”

During that two weeks, the intent is to slurry 1 West Street. Paving will begin after that, with the project completed by the third week in October.
